Hey Brenda,

Bill would probably love to come work in your garden...he is just that kind of guy...always looking at what needs to be done...he puts me to shame. Actually, he would rather repair...well, just about anything rather than do yard work, so most of the time, I do the yard stuff and he does all the other things..nothing stays broken around our house EVER! He is a wonderful man...thanks for reminding me.

His help on our lanai just made my day...the impatients are blooming, the ferns are thinned and beautiful, the palms so green and full, and the new mulch makes it all look clean. Wish I could transport you here to sit and enjoy the sunshine and the trickle of the pond...it would be healing to your soul. So glad you are coming to the states for a good visit...maybe you could do both coasts??? wink

Sorry Lois for hijacking your wonderful thread...I just had to brag on my hubby too!

Update 11/20/2007: Buzz' surgery was 07/19/2007..my how time flies when you're having fun!

Buzz is regaining his strength very slowly. Yesterday, he began physical therapy in hopes of strengthening the atrophied muscles in/around his right shoulder, which has 'dropped' significantly.

On Monday, we see a surgeon who will repair the large hernia that developed at the incision site where the donor femur bone was removed.

On Tuesday, we'll spend the day at the VAMC so that Buzz can get a replacement hearing aide, having lost the original back in July.

Wednesday, back to Hemotology Oncologist for follow up, THEN to E.R. for PEG tube removal! Back to PTherapy on Thurs. & Fri.

The following week, it's the Radiation Oncologist, and f/u with Baptist Hospital, and HOPEFULLY hernia repair the next day.

Buzz is eating/drinking well; sleeping well with help of Ambien; only takes pain med on occasion, especially following home exercises.

The right jaw still has swelling, but the scars from neck disection are hardly noticable!
The 'fungus' Buzz had suffered from since the Korean War has finally miraculously disappeared, thanks to the CHEMO, and his fingernails/toenails are really beautiful!

He still has only a few hairs on his face, but the little hair he lost from his head is coming back in nicely.

Dry mouth is controlled with BIO-TENE products (THANK YOU, GUYS for all the wonderful samples!!)
A humidifier helps to keep the air moist for him.

YES, I BRAG on Buzz!! He will be 77 in just a couple of weeks. I fully believe that his positive ATTITUDE has contributed to his recovery, in addition to the prayers of our families and friends.

MY personal goal for him will be fulfilled, as he begins to prepare for his annual Thanksgiving family feast, which he proudly hosts each year.

This journey has not been an easy one, and I know we have a way to go yet, but I want to encourage everyone who reads this post to try to think positive thoughts, and NEVER give up!
I just wish I could e-mail Petey and share all the good news with him!

Wishing a bountiful Thanksgiving to ALL and the Lord's blessings upon all of you and your families!

Dear Lois and Buzz,
I am so thrilled to read how well Buzz and you are doing! I admire his enduring strength and positive attitude, surely having you by his side has been an inspiration to keep up the fight. You continue to be in my daily prayers-always.
I believe our dear friend, Petey, already knows.
Love,
Donna

I agree with Donna, Petey knows!

Lois,

Sounds like your guy is doing really well...can't keep a good North Carolina boy down. So happy for you.

I keep reflecting on my thoughts four months ago regarding Thanksgiving. I just didn't believe that we would be so lucky to have our hubbys healing well and able to eat a full blown Turkey Dinner! Well, maybe not full blown but still, our guys are tough and I am like you are...so THANKFUL!

Many thanks to all of you for your kind words and continued prayers for Buzz!

PEG tube is scheduled for removal on Wednesday,(day after tomorrow), then hernia repair a week from tomorrow. The surgeon stated today that Buzz will be admitted to the hospital for a couple of days following the repair, as it is quite large and he wants to make sure there are no complications.

His weight is only 162, but his appetite is excellent. I, on the other hand, have GAINED approximately 10 lbs. while trying to boost Buzz' caloric intake!

Our scheduled visit with the ENT surgeon at Baptist will be reset because of the hernia repair. Thus, the panoramic (sp?) that he was to have on the 6th will have to wait. I DO pray that we will have a CLEAR report following this procedure!

One question: is this 'panoramic' some sort of CAT scan? Do these produce specific results?

Thanks again, dear friends...
