There are a wide variety of high quality moisturizing creams available. Glaxal Base is what I was given at the hospital, and it's available at most drugstores. You want to be careful about what you use: it can't contain any metallic elements ( zinc, silver, etc.) since this can actually concentrate the radiation. Talk to your RO, and see what they suggest

Biafine ( http://www.cancer.gov/Templates/db_alpha.aspx?CdrID=45577) worked well for my husband - less greasy than many products and smelled better also.

Bill,
DO NOT SCRATCH IT! Ask your doctor for a steroidal cream, like Desonide, if itching is a problem. You are at great risk for skin infections. There are many things that you can try, ask your RO and rad techs. There is also a product called "Radiacare" which many treatment centers give away samples of.

Make sure that your skin is clean and dry before having a radiation treatment. Lotions and creams on the skin can have a "bolus" effect and exacerbate the radiation damage to the surface of the skin.

Bill, I was given a product called Udderly Smooth which helped a lot and which I still use as a moisturizer today. It was carried in the hospital pharmacy (and perhaps in feed stores?)
