Hello All,

I haven't been posting much lately and wanted to keep all my friend here updated.
I had another two scans in late December and got the results on Jan 9th. The MRI shows the tumor that returned in the original area has grown alot in the scans from 6 months earlier. In June it measured 26mm x 26mm x 38mm. The latest scan measures 31mm x 31mm x 50mm. It is behind the pech flap used to rebuild my throat after the first surgery in July of 03.
I have tried three different chemo drugs in the last year and a half. I have decided to end all treatment while I still feel OK rather than go on something that will make me ill during these last few months. They told me I would likely have between 6 to 8 months. I can't see the sense
of continuing treatment if all it will give me is a couple of more months. I have lost most of my hearing in my right ear. The scan shows fluid built up behind the right ear.

Thanks for understanding my decision,

Love Ya All, Danny Boy

Danny,

I'm holding you in my thoughts. You've been such a model of courage and hope in your fight and you are also a model of knowing when to let go, a completely understandable decision.

You were one of the people that was very kind and encouraging to me when I showed up all confused about the conflicting recommendations I ahd gotten about treatment. You were one of the people who advised me to fight it as hard as I can--a decision I have never regretted. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you for that again.

Nelie

Daniel:
I knew that you had a reoccurance. I didn't, however, realize the severity. I agree with your decision. Quality of life is of great importance equally with quantity.
See Ya soon...

I will never forget when you first came on the message boards, it was very soon after I found this wonderful family. I admired you instantly because you were so open about your fear, something I had yet to face. Reading your posts made me realize how much courage it took to admit that we are afraid during a trial that requires the emotions that cancer demands of us. And then I had the honor of meeting you and your wonderful wife. My girls had heard so much about Danny Boy, I talked and talked about you. When I met you I felt like I had known you forever and you were the hit of our walkathon. My girls ask me at least once a week how you're doing and this news will make them very sad. I'm crying typing this. I'm so sorry it's turned out this way Danny, I wish I could do something to change the outcome. But I so deeply respect the courage you have shown and continue to show. I also agree with your decision, it's one I would make for myself if I am ever in your position. You offer a window into what may become some of our realities in the future, please keep sharing with us.
Love you,
Minnie

Danny - I know you have been posting less since I joined the site but I am someone who has probably read almost all the posts that exist on this site. You have no idea how the insights and humour and shake recipe you posted in the last few years have helped my husband in the last few months.

Thank you so much for your generous sharing of knowledge and your model of positive thinking and abiding self-respect.

Much love to you and your family and friends.
Mary
