I am days into IMRT radiation. I haven't slept all night once since my neck surgery 7/31/03.
I try and not nap during the day and go to bed around 10:30. I must wake up to roll over at least 10 times a night, It is frustrating. The onocolgist prescribed sleeping pills (TEMAZEPAM)
and they don't appear to do the job. Is this normal.?

Recurrance in June 05 in right tonsil area. Now receiving palliative chemo (Erbitux) starting 3/9/06

Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 541 | Dan, sleeping has once been a very serious problem when I finished all my treatment. I had a 'sleeping /bed phobia' for quite a while meaning that when it was time for bed, I was scared that I would wake up after one or two hours feeling very miserable. The doctor had to change the sleeping pills and the dosage. I was concerned about addiction but if I couldn't sleep at night, I felt really bad in the day time. When my body got closer to normal, I quit the sleeping pills over the night. It has been more than a year that I don't have to rely on my sleeping pills. So the best thing you should do now is to talk to your doctor and see if it is necessary to switch to another type of sleeping pill.

Karen stage 4B (T3N3M0)tonsil cancer diagnosed in 9/2001.Concurrent chemo-radiation treatment ( XRT x 48 /Cisplatin x 4) ended in 12/01. Have been in remission ever since.
