Hello.
Mom had her ct scan done today and her PET scan. We will probably get the results of the pet tomorrow. My sister took her today, she said that they will be using IMRT. I know I've seen it here somewhere, can't focus, can anyone please direct me?
Thanks. hope you all are doing well!
Donna

First go here - http://www.oralcancerfoundation.org
Bottom of the page click search link, which will take you to here - http://www.oralcancerfoundation.org/search.htm

Type in IMRT - the first find will give you an overview, the following 8 pages of finds will fill in any blanks for those with a desire for lots of details

Thank You Brian and Kevin

Like Donna's mother and many others I too will be getting treatment via IMRT in the near future.

I have read several pages from the above stated websites pointed out by Brian and Kevin. There is an enormously overwhelming amount of information to read and comprehend.

I will have to excuse myself now as "my brain is full"! eek

PS: Kevin, it is "Truly an amazing machine"!

Waiting is definitely the pits! Maybe you could call them? So they know you are anxious.

RO called this morning! Mom is cancer free everywhere else. I can't tell you how relieved I am. The one thing he did say was that there might be cancer cells in the lymph nodes right beneath her tongue-they showed up med-bright in the scan. He said he was going to overlay the ct and pet scans and radiate from there. At least that is what I think he said. Now I am starting to question myself. I am sooooo happy and feel so blessed. I know there is still a lot ahead of her, but knowing it is contained to that area makes me feel better. I know I've told you all before, I adore my mom, she is my favorite person, best friend. I was so scared. I don't know how I would have managed without all of you. Thanks.

I think now maybe I can re-read what everyone wrote above and maybe comprehend it a little better.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, the pet and ct scan are done together. The ct scan is used to show where the uptake is. I noticed that sharlee wrote that they said they couldn't do them both on the same day. I have had all three done in the same machine one right after the other. I would check into this sharlee, one of the things that has caused me prob is not having all the info from the first pet scan to compare with the last two. Unfortunately it doesn't exist but it would have been very helpful. The pet scan shows the uptake but is not the best for showing the exact location, when done with ct it is very accurate at both pre treatment. After treatment it gets a little more difficult. Good luck with all of your mom's treatments Donna.
