Was primary caregiver to my daughter Heather who had stage IV base of tongue SCC w/ primary recurrence. Original diagnosis August 21st, 2002. Primary recurrence March 18th, 2003. Died October 6th, 2003.

Mark, 21 Year survivor, SCC right tonsil, 3 nodes positive, one with extra-capsular spread. I never asked what stage (would have scared me anyway) Right side tonsillectomy, radical neck dissection right side, maximum radiation to both sides, no chemo, no PEG, age 40 when diagnosed.

Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 642 | I have a question for Danny and Brian. Here in Houston, at least, the TV is full of expensive advertisements for M.D. Anderson. Also I have seen the ads in many magazines, including Newsweek, and, I believe that they are distributed beyond the local market. Obviously they are competing with the other large hospitals in Houston and elsewhere for cancer patients.
A friend of mine runs the Methodist Hospital system in Houston, which is our largest, and she tells me that Anderson want business like every other hospital.
Then why must one get " accepted " as Danny Boy has, to be treated in a cancer hospital that is spending millions in an attempt to attract patients?

SCC Stage IV right tonsil T3N3M0. Dx 08/03. Clinical Trial:8 weeks Taxol, Carboplatin then Hydrea, 5FU, IMRT x's 48, SND, Iressa x 2yrs. Now 20 years out and thriving. Dealing with a Prostate cancer diagnosis now. Add a Bladder cancer diagnosis to all the fun.

Way to go! But then again, how could they refuse someone as special as you are! Here's hoping that MDA has some tricks up their sleeves for you that will knock the hell out of this cancer! Hoping and praying for good answers to what I'm sure are your many questions.
