Goodevening,

My questions are never ending, thank you all for your answers. Here is my next one:
The doctor stitched my mom's tounge in place with a some thread after surgery. she had some of it removed and then a skin graft placed on it. It is very white looking right now. Because it is held in place she is limited in talking and swallowing. Has any one had this done?
And here is one more for the road:
It turns out that at some point in bandage changing at Loma Linda part of her skin graft on her leg came off. I don't know when this happened. The "yellow" tissue was thought to be necratic but it turns out it her tendons exposed. Should I be concered? No one else is. Ann-

Hi, I had my tounge done the same way. There had been only a snip removed, but they did this to protect it because I had an open jagged bone exposed because of a failed flap. Also it kept me from pulling on that side of my mouth till more surgery was done and more secure. I learned to talk around it and eat too. I became so use to it I was suprised at the freedom when they made it loose. As soon as they are sure all is healed properly they will let it loose, but meanwhile she can work around it.

Annabel, your mom has had quite an ordeal my heart goes out to her. I suppose I am very lucky my ENT was of the school that believes not to cut unless it is a last resort. My cancer is at the base of my tongue and aside from the initial biopsy I have had no surgeries. I did however have my teeth removed from premolars back upper and lower to eleminate side effects of radiation therapy and chemo.

Stage 3, T3, N1, M0. Squamous Cell Carcinoma, Base of Toungue. 36 RAD treatnents and 8 Chemo. Currently in treatment.

Stage 3, T3,N1,M0,SCC, Base of Tongue. No Surgery, Radiationx39, Chemo, Taxol & Carboplatin Weekly 8 Treatments 2004. Age 60. Recurrence 2/06, SCC, Chest & Neck (Sub clavean), Remission 8/06. Recurrence SCC 12/10/06 Chest.

Hello,
Yes my mom has gone has gone throught a hell of an ordeal, its amazing that she is doing so well. When the doctors saw her they wanted to operate the next day. They opted for sugery first then radation, they said if they did rad. and it didn't work they would loose the window for surgery. Thanks for the tounge info..we were puzzled when we found out. What is really in her mouth is a mystery, to hard to tell becasue of the swelling. On tuesday I'll get the run down on her procedure and diagnosies so I can expalin better.
