Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 1,163 | Went to the rad on'gist today for my mask making and a cat scan to plan the rad. After I told him the plastic surgeon won't sign off on rad for another three weeks he cancelled the mask and cat scan until Sept 3rd. Says the mask and cat scan should be done close to the actual start of radaition? Does that make sense? Was disappointed, want to start the process asap. Dan

He assumes that there might be additional physical changes to the contours of your face/neck between now and then as a function of the healing process. This really doesn't change anything for you, and insures that you have something that fits well when the time comes.

Mark, 21 Year survivor, SCC right tonsil, 3 nodes positive, one with extra-capsular spread. I never asked what stage (would have scared me anyway) Right side tonsillectomy, radical neck dissection right side, maximum radiation to both sides, no chemo, no PEG, age 40 when diagnosed.

You are "in the system" just as much as if you are in prison. It will have a life of its own and events will occur just when they are supposed to. Be patient, relax and allow for your body to heal.
