Hello All,

I found this board after my sucessful treatment for SCC base of tongue, and two lymph nodes. Had 35 rad, and 2 rounds of 5FU, plus taxol (sp), cisplatin (sp), and two other chemos. Yesterday, Oct 6, was the one year aniversery of my first 5FU 4 day treatment and the beginning of a long road. Used PEG tube for four months, ost 60lbs. (needed to lose the weight anyway) Finished treatment Dec 6th, had modified rad neck disection on Jan 31. Started working out two weeks after surgery. So far, so good. Am in remission. And continue to gain strength. Am now 58, was not a smoker.

This forum is great. I wish I had seen it before and during treatment. I hope all I have talked to and posted are well and fighting this ugly thing.

Remember Jimmy Valvano "NEVER GIVE UP"

SCC, base of tongue, 2 lymph nodes, stage 3/4. 35 X's IMRT radiation, chemo: Cisplatin x 2, 5FU x2, & Taxol x2. Hooray, after 3 years I'm in still in remission.

Congratulations Steve !
One of the best tools we have in fighting this thing is a good positive attitude....something you have in spades!

Happy news Steve!

Mark, 21 Year survivor, SCC right tonsil, 3 nodes positive, one with extra-capsular spread. I never asked what stage (would have scared me anyway) Right side tonsillectomy, radical neck dissection right side, maximum radiation to both sides, no chemo, no PEG, age 40 when diagnosed.
