I'm eight months post radiation treatment and have developed an open sore on my lower lip...it's been a couple of weeks and isn't getting any better. Anybody else ever have that problem?

I haven't had that problem but anytime a sore doesn't heal within a week is a concern. It could be many things but knowing for sure can stop the anxiety. Please have your doc check it out and let us know what you find out. We care about you! - Kris

SCC Stage IV left tonsil neck disection 3/02 radiation finished 6/02 chemo finished 9/02

I agree with Kris. The doctors gave me a "Strange Items Rule of Thumb" - anything over 7-10 days s/b checked out. Not b/c it IS something, but just to be safe.

Hi GLS,

The above advice is good, talk to your doctors. Just so you don't worry, from what I have read and from my own experience (disscussions with my doctor) it would be unlikely that your tonsil cancer would show up on your lip. You may be having a problem with low salivia and abrasion with your teeth. I have the same problem with my tongue and a couple of sharp edges on my teeth. It is worse when I have been talking alot.

Mark, 21 Year survivor, SCC right tonsil, 3 nodes positive, one with extra-capsular spread. I never asked what stage (would have scared me anyway) Right side tonsillectomy, radical neck dissection right side, maximum radiation to both sides, no chemo, no PEG, age 40 when diagnosed.
