Hello All,

I have been diagonsed with Malignant Melanoma in my left part of the tongue on July 2007. I have undergone a major surgery to remove 2/3 of my left tongue.

I am worried about the possibility of the recurrence for this disease.

Can anyone help to know the followings:

1. Is there any medicines for this cancer.
2. Is there any advanced treatment like Stem cell treatment for this cancer.

Muru. Recurrence is also my biggest fear. I'm not sure about your cancer either but I know how you feel. The doctors tell me the statistics of recurrence for my caner all the time. I need to hear some good things sometimes. Good luck.

Hi All,

I was free from Cancer for the last 5 1/2 years. But Unfortunately, Now I got the recurrence of Melanoma now in SupraGlottis area.

Again doctors are advising the major surgery for this recurrence.

Whether anybody has faced similar Cancer recurrence in this area? If So, what

1. What will be the impact of the surgery in this area.
2. Will I lose all my voice completely.
3. Do we have any other better treatment to make sure that this will never recur again
4. Which is the best hospital in the world to treat Melanoma
5. How can we ensure that this will will never recur again.

I am waiting for the guidanace from you friends.

Thanks,
Muru

The questions you have asked are difficult to answer. We are not medical professionals with many years of medical training and experience to help give answers. We also do not know your medical history which your physicians have in front of them.

The area you have mentioned is right above the larynx. Do you have Malignant Melanoma or Squamous Cell Carcinoma? How were you treated back in 2007? Most members here have had SCC oral cancer so thats what we are most familiar with on the forum. As far as SCC oral cancer goes the treatments to eliminate the cancer are surgery with clear margins, radiation with or without chemo. Chemo is used as a booster to help make the radiation more effective with killing cancer cells.

As with any treatment for any disease, alot depends on the skill of the treating physician. The best advice I can give you or any other patient is to find the best medical care in your area with the most experienced physicians to treat you. If you are unsure of their capabilities or even to help make your decisions, seek out a second or even third opinion from other top medical professionals.

I would suggest you ask your physicians the questions you have written for our members. Hopefully your cancer was found early and treatment will enable you to keep your voice. But even without it, you can still live a productive life. Much better to be alive with handicaps or limitations than not to be here at all. At least thats my way of thinking. I live with facial disfigurement and other daily issues but am able to stay active and positive about my situation.

Each treatment facility will say they are the very best available but thru research you will be able to find what places are rated as the best in treating cancer. Here in the US, we have several top cancer centers. Im sorry but I do not know what is available in your country. We do have several members from your country who may be able to advise you as to what facilities are the best.

Wishing you all the best Muru!
