My name is Sam I am only 41 years old and I have tonsil cancer. I have just finished with a pet scan. I am awaiting the results. I hope to get the results Monday.

I was hospitalized with dvt 5 weeks ago and they told me that dvt was rare for someone my age. I was put on warfarin to thin the blood. I was realeased and a week later I had a large grouth on my tonsil. The cumadin level in my blood was to high and finally the grouth ruptured and my doctor sent me to the E.N.T. specialist. He didn't have a good bedside manner when he looked in my mouth and told me we would have to take out the tonsil and biobsy and then seek consil with the radiation and chemo department.

I asked him if that meant that I had cancer and he re-grouped and started trying to cover up. I was upset. He must have believed it was cancer or he wouldn't have said what he did.

Please reply with any advice or coomments

Dear Sam, Do you know for sure that you have a cancer diagnosis? Please give us more info so we can be helpful. 1st thing to do if you do have that diagnosis is to get to a major Cancer Center to get the best treatment protocol available.
Bedside manner isn't always important, but confindence in your Doctors is very important. Keep posting. Amy in the Ozarks

NO and god willing Monday he will confirm that I do not have cancer. He used a scope that went up my nose to the back of my throat so he could see the tonsil better. He then stopped and went and got two other nurses or trainees and brought them in to look at the grouth on my tonsil. I am not confident in the doctor since he has scared the hell out of me. I thought he could have handled this a lot better

All the more reason to get checked again at a major Cancer Center that sees lots of Head and Neck problems. If this Doc is "iffy" or wishy-washy at all, you need to to to a higher level. Don't panic, just be smart. Amy

Welcome Sam

I sent you an email earlier when I saw you pop up as a new member.

I know it is hard to relax, but until they say it's cancer, it is not cancer. Do not beat yourself up worrying about unproven issues.

Stay the course and know we are all praying for you.

Petey smile

Hi Sam--I am confused-did your tonsil enlarge in a weeks time??

Left tonsil SCC, HPV+. T2N0M0. Tonsillectomy 3-07, bilateral radiation, cisplatin 3x, Tx completed 6-06. Clear PET 4-01-2008.
Thyroidectomy 5-9-08, resulting in permanent surgically-induced hypoparathyroidism and adrenal problems. Bummer.

Yes I didn't notice the tonsil until a week after I was released from the hospital with dvt. I ask the ENT doc if it was caused by the blood thinner and he said that the blood thinner was the reason that we noticed it but it had been there for awhile.

Hi Sam

Cancer is certainly not the only possible cause of your tonsil swelling.Like the others said sit tight and wait and try not to go into a tail spin.
