Hello All, I would like to introduce myself. I am a Survivor. When Does Cancer ever come at the right time? Not ever...I am a Gardner and love Nature and Biking. I was diagnosed with an Branchial Cleft Cyst by my ENT in 2010 to find it had 2 small squamous cell carcinoma in biopsy so I underwent 6 weeks of Radiation to my left side of neck. Pet Scan came out clear in December 2010!

On August 2013 I had a lesion in my mouth that wouldn't heal near the base of my left tonsil, intially I thought I had streph throat and the doctor treated with antiboitics. I went to the dentist and he recommended me going back to my ENT which he operated end of August to remove my left tonsil and scoped out area where the lesion was so I have an small encave where lesion was biopsied squamous cell carcinoma stage II HPVPos. I finished up Proton Radiation 2xs a day M-F with Chemo on Mondays along with this. I just had a Pet Scan on the 24th of Feb 2014. My Oncologist will give me the results on March 10th, 2014.
I feel optimistic and have slowly have gotten back to exercising. I am glad to be on this forum with others to share information and get hints of what to do and maybe not to do. I feel lucky to be here. Nice to meet you all. I am a mother of 2 grown children and a grandmother of soon to be 5 and am 57 years old.

Welcome Gardner
Branchial cysts are quite often misdiagnosed, I had the same issue, I put off operation for six months to remove as I did not know they are quite often actually cancerous lymph nodes. I think doctors would rather they be cysts then the other option. My tonsil was scc as well although they figure primary was base of tongue HPV pos is a good thing as usually better outcomes good luck on your results....ken

Welcome Gardner. I just finished Proton Therapy in January for a neck recurrence, and will have my post treatment PET/CT in May, and wish you good luck. As Doolittle mentioned, Brachial Cleft Cysts are often misdiagnosed. It was previously thought, and was debatable, that the cyst could possibly transform to SCC. These days, it is more recognized that if the cyst is SCC, is likely to be an early Metastases for HPV in the oropharynx, usually the tonsil or BOT.
