I had surgery this Monday, I am still in a lot of pain, baby is 23 weeks now and is a boy So far he is doing fine, but still get very nervous due to meds and everything he is going through. The doctor said they got negative margins, I am not sure exactly what that means but I am assuming its good thing. I go Wednesday for the full pathology report and final diagnoses, hoping for the best with it. I am just going to add what a crappy place the mouth is to have work done, I feel for everyone here and what strong people you all are <3

After reading your post above I just thought I had it bad, but I can't hold a candle to your situation. My hat is off to you.
I think negative margins is what you want to hear, meaning no cancer. They also use the term clear margins, as in clear of cancer.
I'm not sure of what MEC is, that's one abbreviation I haven't come across yet.
I suppose in the Zen nature of things the good about all this is you don't have time to wonder about your results or worry about anything C related. With two other children and one in the oven so to speak you are probably at max overload already.
Here's hoping others step up and handle the details of upcoming Thanksgiving.
take care, let us know the results, we're here to help in the way you desire.

Negative, or clear margins, are very good news, it means that edges of the removed cancerous tissue were cancer-free.

I cannot open my mouth very well at all and I stuck my finger in there the other day (feeling brave) and the whole side of my cheek in the back is hard as a rock.. kind of disgusting. I am just so glad to be done for now. Wishing you all the best.

April 2006: Husband dx by dentist with leukoplakia on tongue. Oral surgeon's biopsy 4/28/06: Moderate dysplasia; pathology report warned of possible "skip effect." ENT's excisional biopsy (got it all) 5/31/06: SCC in situ/small bit superficially invasive. Early detection saves lives.
