Hi, I was not sure where to put this , so General it is. A friend thru marriage resently was at my sons house helping him do some work and his ear started bleeding. They though he bumped it , but he had a lumpy thing on his ear. He went to the Doctor and he removed it and said " alls well ". Well a few days later he calls and says the lab says skin cancer and you need to see a specialist. That Doctor said surgery to remove a bigger area , will do some plastic to make ear look ok, and need to do surgery on neck to remove some lymph nodes. Now the family is taking this all like its nothing. I see red flags because of all of us needing the lymph nodes removed to see whats what. I seem to be the only one worried.I know two people with skin cancer and they never had this. there cancer was on the face though not the ear area. It does seem like this is being treated more like Oral Cancer. They did do everything in less than two weeks which is good. They say they will tell him the results in two weeks on the lymph nodes. Does this seem normal for skin cancer? I know it is all squamous cell. Maybe I am over reacting because I have had cancer in the head area??? Anyone have a guess or opinion on why this was?

are you sure it was Squamous cell?

Mark, 21 Year survivor, SCC right tonsil, 3 nodes positive, one with extra-capsular spread. I never asked what stage (would have scared me anyway) Right side tonsillectomy, radical neck dissection right side, maximum radiation to both sides, no chemo, no PEG, age 40 when diagnosed.

The husband of a friend of mine went through something similar at the same time I was going through my surgery and recovery. He also had SCC and lymph nodes removed. His were below the ear on his neck. Nodes were clear and that is the only treatment he required. He's missing an ear lobe on one side, but doing fine.

I thought they should have been more concerned, but my worry didn't accomplish anything for them or me!

Sincerely,
Lisa

Hi, Mark, not positive. Got another guess? Lisa , this sounds like the same thing your friend had, my relative has his on top of his ear.I guess removing lymph nodes is a good safety measure for any cancer, and also the head neck area even if not oral.Hopefully he will be lucky like your friend and need no other treatment. This guy was so great with me thru all of my trials and tribulations , never let me leave without a big hug and I hated to see him have to go thru this.Hell ,I would not want my worse enemy to go thru this.Does it not seem like more people are getting Cancer than less? There are 6 people on my street that have had one kind or another. We do not live in a high risk area either. I guess the good part is all of us are still here and kickin.

They called and were told not back yet, then on the morning of his birthday they called and said everything clear, got all the cancer and checks ups only thing needed. What a great Birthday present!
