Having surgery Friday to remove gum tissue and 3 teeth for T1N0M0 diagnosed last month, first presented in April 2013. Good prognosis with no radiation recommended at this time. Possible skin graft to site depending on amount of tissue removed, either thigh or neck.

Anyone with similar diagnosis/treatment? Looking for support and encouragement, and what to expect from surgery/recovery/reoccurence?

Thanks

Best wishes. I had SCC on my upper right maxilla. Four associated teeth and jawbone were removed. The surgery wasn't as bad as I thought, my problems came after radiation. I was hoping not to have radiation, but my margins did not come back clean. You will be fine, and keep your Spirits and attitute high. Best wishes to a quick, non radiation needed recovery!

Did you require a skin graft to cover the area?

CMo,

I've had a few grafts following my original treatment, with donor sight from my hip and they were a walk in the park compared to the Mandiblectomy and radiation. Your diagnosis is really good actually,

Here is a link to a study done almost 15 years ago where they tracked 42 patients with a T1N0M0 diagnosis over 70 months. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10226980

In clinical follow-up, 6 patients developed local recurrences and 5 patients lymph node metastases. Three patients died of disease.

Where obviously there's no 100% guarantees, I'd say the odds are in your favor, so keep your head up.

Have a very experienced surgeon who has preformed similar surgeries many time would be my advice. Recovery depends on the extent of the procedure and the patient.

Best wishes with everything!!!
