This was never the case before I started CRT in May. They both have good hygiene, so I know it's my sensitive nose. I'm about to finish treatment for tonsillar cancer (3 chemo/35 radiation Tx). Has anyone else had this problem? Did it resolve after treatment? Any suggestions? They are starting to be offended when I cover my nose. | | | | Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 7 Administrator, Director of Patient Support Services Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) | Administrator, Director of Patient Support Services Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 10,507 Likes: 7 | Welcome to OCF!
I did not have exactly the same problem as you but I did notice my sense of smell became more sensitive. I could now smell subtle things I had never noticed before. Other people's breath I dont think was an issue for me. But I used to joke with my kids that at least I got something out of having cancer and its treatments, I was left with a super smeller for a nose.
Hang in there, things you will begin to slowly get back to your old self in a few weeks. It was either normal breath or body odor that triggered it. It happened for parts of treatment and has resolved itself. I did feel like my nose became more sensitive as well, which likely contributed to it. It was not fun commuting to work on a subway car with everyone sweating and breathing in close proximity to eachother.

Normally, something cooking smelled so good but there have been times that I had to go upstairs to get away from the smell. Now that I'm 9 weeks post Tx and eating, the sensitivity has eased off a bit. It's still very sensitive but I can tolerate smells better.
Suggestions?.. Give them each a tin of Altoids ;)~
Positive thoughts and prayers

I made a mistake chopping some for cooking, and could smell it on my hand, anything I touched, which seemed like a few weeks, and did not go away even by scrubbing. Don't worry, cause the breath we have when we undergoing treatment, is just as offensive, especially from radiation. Hopefully it soon passes, mine did, and can enjoy garlic in food once again.

We have to use scent-free detergent and dryer sheets.
