At 17 weeks post Taxotere/Erbitux and radiation treatment. My husbands pain is still at a 10+. On 100mcg fentynal, percocet and vicodin. Along with otc ibuprofen, tylenol and lidocaine. Anyone experienced this? How long can the suffering continue?

Can't recall any that have experienced that much pain that far post Tx. Hoping he's not addicted to those powerful drugs but he needs to be evaluated by experienced professionals ASAP. Would also be helpful to add a Signature Line so that wee see the entire history.

That is awesome to know, congrats to you! Yep, just as all the medical drs., know one has ever heard of this long term effect. Ron is actually entering a rehabilitation center today to get off all the opiates because the person we sought help for (phychological), happens to be a long time friend and RN, immediately told us that he needs to get off all that stuff in order to heal. So, as afraid as he is to do this, we are checking him into a private center. The reality is that ON all those drugs he is still having the pain, so he may as well try something different and get off them now so we can really deal with his mind and physical pain issues. We are just out of options with the doctors. May have to shift gears and seek out someone who examines the mucositis issues and if there may be further damage to his tissues caused by the treatments. Hoping for a positive change. Thanks for the tip of the signature. I will update this...!

Sorry to hear your husband is still struggling. A full recovery can take 2 years. Most OC patients are considerably better after about the 6 month post rads point. Even at 3 months post rads alot of patients are doing pretty good and working to return to their old lives. Everything will become easier as time goes on. We all respond in our own unique ways to treatments and medications. Your husband can help speed up his recovery thru good nutrition including high protein powder to help heal. I can tell you that mouth sores can be extremely painful. Rinsing with 16 oz warm water, 2 tsp baking soda and 2 tsp salt will help his mouth to heal.

Best wishes with the rehab center!!!!

All I can say is WOW. And congratulations for overcoming all the mountains that have had to overcome. Its been a journey and a half for you!!! Thank you for the words of encouragement and I hope to be posting Ron's new journey off the opiates and onto management of the chronic pain through other means. Being in the limbo for 4 months has proven to be quite debilitating and depression does not help the healing. Praying for better days ahead. As with yours, wont be easy but well worth the fight!!

Hi- I don't know what your situation is now, but after dealing with mucositis (vomitting the stuff up on an hourly basis), and going from 119 to 105 very quickly, i was finally admitted to get a peg inserted. Have Had it since Fri pm, still hurts, but its a marked improvement.
The thing is tho, it was finally a GP Doc ( not RA or MA specialist) who finally got me on a combi of Mucinex and a Scopalmine (?-aka Transderm Scop) patch that is worn behid the ear for 3days at a stretch. Unbelievable how much it helped me. No more vomitting, and much less spiiting the goop out.
Just passing along my experience in case it can help others-
Lyn
