My brother-in-law's brother, in his mid-forties has been diagnosed with bowel cancer. Their mother (and by a tragic coincidence their youngest sister's 42 year old husband) have passed away from bowel cancer in the last 3 years.

Is anyone aware of a support site/list of forums similar in intent to OCF for sufferers of this type of cancer?

Check this one out. I don't think it is as well moderated but it ticks the box for being supportive. http://csn.cancer.org/forum

Sorry cancer has touched you again. Cancer sucks.

Thanks for that, Lam. I don't know this fellow very well, but I really feel for him and his extended family which includes my brother-in-law.
I think of you and your hubby often. I hope all is going well for him, you and your family and that he is recovering after completing treatment.

Yeah, I think of you and your brother often too. My first OCF connection, who also lives in the neighbourhood, so to speak. Simon was just finishing treatment as Rick was beginning. I often wonder if Simon has some of the same issues months out of treatment.

I honestly don't know how to define doing well. His 8 week post treatment PET was good. He's been seen by some doctor or other every couple of months and all seems good in terms of response to treatment. He's back to work 2 days per week. He won't admit to having much pain. He continues to be very stoic and sweet about the whole ordeal. That's all "doing well".

But radiation/chemo sure leaves its mark. He's very underweight still, barely any gain since the end of treatment. Still has a PEG -- not using it much but afraid to let it go. He eats but without much joy. Progress is slow now compared to the first couple of months after finishing treatment. The new normal is evolving, abet slowly, and I wonder if I'll know when he's arrived.

I tell people that these problems are good problems to have and while that IS an absolute truth, it is not the whole truth. The whole truth is that I grieve for him, myself, our family. I wonder if and when the other shoe is gonna drop. I feel stronger, wiser and, when something makes me feel good (which happens quite often), I feel the happiness much more intensely. But still I wish things were the way they used to be.
