Well, my trip to FL to see Dr. Marx for a consult on a jaw resection/reconstruction has taken a slight turn. Dr. Marx is pretty confident that I have radiation-induced osteosarcoma of the jaw instead of the aforethought osteoradionecrosis. He took a biopsy of the lesion and I had a PET scan to rule out mets, on both of which I am awaiting results. Anyone else dealt with an issue like this or had treatment for osteosarcoma of the jaw?

I had cancer in my jawbone. It was treated with only a mandibulectomy. I had previously had radiation to this area. There are several others who have had mandibulectomies on this forum. Its not an easy surgery but it can be done. Some sail right thru while others struggle. I was one who struggled, but after a long recovery I am ok.

Best wishes!

I'm in the same boat as Christine as the SCC was deeply involved in my jawbone, in fact my jaw was dwindled down to virtually nothing on my right side due to how large the tumor was. I had the whole right side of my jaw replaced and where it was a long recovery for sure (due to other issues as well) I'm alive and enjoy a good standard of living. There are new challenges to be sure but the important thing is I made it through it and am thoroughly enjoying life now.

Good luck Richard, keep your head up my friend.

Eric

Bullet # 1 dodged. PET scan report shows no mets! Meet with hematologist/oncologist on Friday.
