I'll keep Chris in my thoughts and prayers that his surgeon's hands are divinely guided, that he gets clear margins, and that his recovery is quick and as comfortable as possible.
Your brother is lucky to have you in his corner. I'm sure you are, and will be, able to understand each other the way neither a parent nor spouse could begin to understand. I hope it comforts both of you.
Kelly, I'll will pray that your treatments are completely successful at eradicating the cancer, once and for all; that you will have a speedy recovery, and that you'll be back to your busy life very soon.

Ex-spouse MISDIAGNOSED with SCC-HN IVa 12/10. Tonsils out 1/11. 4 teeth out 2/11. TX Erbitux x2, IMRT x2 2/11. 2nd opinion-benign BCC-NOT CANCER 3/11. TX stopped 3/11. New doctors 4/11. ENT agrees with 2nd opinion 5/11. ENT scoped him-all clear 7/11. Ordered MRI anyway. MRI 8/22/11 Result-all clear.

History Leukoplakia bx 8/2006 SCC floor mouth T3N0M0- Verrucous Carcinoma.
14 hour 0p SCC-Right ND/excision/marginal mandibulectomy 9/2006, 4 teeth removed, flap from wrist, trach-ng 6 days- no chemo/rad.
6 ops and debulking (flap/tongue join) + bx's 2006-2012.
bx Jan 2012 Hyperkeratosis-Epithelial Dysplasia
24cm GIST tumour removed 8/2013. Indefinite Oral Chemo.
1/31/16 passed away peacefully surrounded by family

Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 618 | Just got word from my brother. Surgeon at MD Anderson says that he feels he has a 90% chance of removing all the cancer during tomorrow�s surgery on my brother's throat. He will also take one molar and remove the area around the dysplasia in his mouth. They said they will be doing a neck dissection just to be sure in about 6 weeks. No radiation is planed now. He will be getting a tracheotomy for a few days so he will be in hospital for at least three days.
All in all good news.

Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 618 | Chris had his surgery earlier in week. They could not get it all as the path reports kept coming back with cancer. I assume this means it was much more differentiated or the boundaries were not as clear as the doctor assumed. Anyway, path forward looks like radiation to the throat � removal of 6 molars and area of dysplasia in the mouth. They want to give him two weeks to heal before getting back to it. MD Andersons tumor board will meet and give him official recommendation sometime this next week
