I don't know if thi has been addressed here or not, but every so often my tongue seems to swell up and I can hardly talk. It doesn't last long, five or ten minutes at the most, but I can't really predict when it happens. It is uncomfortable at the time, and not necessarily painful, but I'm not sure what is causing it.

Female, nonsmoker, 70, diag. 5/09 after tongue biopsy: stage IV. Left hemi-gloss. and left selec. neck disec. 30 lymph nodes removed May 20. Over 7 weeks daily rads. with three chemo. PEG removed 12/4/09 Am eating mostly soft foods. Back to work 11/09 Retired 4/1/11. 7 clear scans! Port out 9/11. 2/13. It's back: base of tongue, very invasive
surgery involving lifestyle changes. 2/14: Now speaking w/Passey-Muir valve. Considering a swallow study. Grateful to be alive.

Zen,

I didn't have what you had done, BUT by the end of the day I talk like I have a mouth full and my tongue feels like it's huge. When I eat dairy products my tongue feels the same way.

I get paranoid and think it's back. The next morning my tongue feels like it's back to normal, but then again at the end of the day it feels huge. I guess I talk too much:)

Take care,
Connie

Mine only lasts around five or ten minutes at the most, and at first I thought it was because I had been doing a lot of talking, or had been doing something too strenuous, but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. it does seem to help if I spray my mouth, or drink some water. I thought it might be side effects from radiation, but you haven't had radiation.
