Hi everyone,

Just wanted to post an update about my dad. His surgery started around 7:45 today. All the doctors and nurses were extremely sweet as they always are. There was also a very sweet lady that recited for us a beautiful prayer and eased our minds. My dad sends his greeting to everyone on the forum and thanks you all for your love and support.

The tumor is toward the back of the tongue so they will split his jaw and lip to access it and remove it. He will also have another neck dissection. He is going to going to have an inmediate reconstruction with skin graft. I can't recall if I mentioned that there was a new lump in the back of his month, by there the wisdom teeth grow, on the right side, which had a bliser like appearance. It turns out it is the tumor too, so it is posibble he will have a mandibulectomy too, but we don't know until they get to that area.

A few minutes ago his nurse informed us he was sleeping now under the effects of the anesthesia and his breathing tube was placed on him.

I really loved that beautiful prayer, it asked for God to guide the doctor's hands and my dad to remember He loves him.
How I wish you all would have listened to it, it was a prayer for you too. Hugs.

Love,

Benfry

I will keep your dad, you and your family in my prayers. My mom underwent the "whipple" surgery at Johns Hopkins which is a 10 hour surgery so I know first hand how difficult the waiting is. Hugs.

Hi Benfry,

What a beautiful and uplifting post to write on such a stressful day for you! You truly are a gift to your dad. That he would think of others today is astonishing and extremely kind. I'd say he is lucky to have you--but luck had nothing to do with raising a kind, generous and thoughtful child. I see his influence in you. He taught by example and he taught well.

Thank you for your kind words. I'm keeping you, your family and your dear father in my thoughts and prayers.

Love,

Sandy

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much. I will never have words to express my gratitute towards your support. I feel so thankful to have found this forum, it really makes a difference and we feel we are not alone...

I'd like to post an update on the surgery. The doctors say that both, the removal of the tumor and the reconstruction of the tongue went well. He didn't need a mandibulectomy. He will stay in the hospital for about 10 more days...

I will keep posting with updates and questions...

Hugs,

Benfry

Thanks for the update. I pray that each day your dad feels a little bit better. You must be exhausted. I know first hand how emotionally draining all this is. Make sure you take care of you. Hugs
