Just wondering how those who are currently undergoing treatment are doing - those that come to mind are Joanna and Baron50.
My mother started her 5th week of twice daily radiation and her 5th cisplatin this week. She is surprising us all - I hope it's a good sign! The doctors admitted they were skeptical about whether she could keep up the treatments but they have been very encouraging to her and she seems rather proud - anything to keep things going!
Of course she has run the gamut of symptoms, battling a round of thrush, now has obvious mucositis and increasing problems with swallowing. Last night I could hear her gurgling all night - was afraid she was going to choke! I assume this is normal but did suggest she start propping her head up at night - any other suggestions? I was disappointed that her blood counts have fallen to the point where they are going to start Procrit and Neupogen shots tomorrow - trying to keep her on track for one last cisplatin infusion. Fortunately though she does not seem any more fatigued than usual.
She has only lost about 7 pounds surprisingly. She is teetering around 99 lbs - but as long as she can maintain that with her 1800 calorie liquid diet - they won't do a stomach tube (unless she can no longer swallow).
Would like to hear how others are progressing - I hope as well as my mother.

I was done at 33 - missed my last cisplatin dose but had 2 full doses, like ibsaid I was fine until almost the end - the last 10 days have been hard - but it's okay I think I am finally improving - I have been able to eat/ drink all along - not that much - 1200 but I've now lost 14 lbs - but I could afford to - I was 161 at the start. Tell her to hang in - she's a trooper.
Take care
