Watch her talk about oral cancer. The dentist almost has it right except that HPV is now the most common cause of OC. Way to go Elizabeth!!!! http://www.foxsanantonio.com/newsroom/top_stories/videos/vid_5487.shtml ChristineSCC 6/15/07 L chk & by L molar both Stag I, age44 2x cispltn-35 IMRT end 9/27/07 -65 lbs in 2 mo, no caregvr Clear PET 1/08 4/4/08 recur L chk Stag I surg 4/16/08 clr marg 215 HBO dives 3/09 teeth out, trismus 7/2/09 recur, Stg IV 8/24/09 trach, ND, mandiblctmy 3wks medicly inducd coma 2 mo xtended hospital stay, ICU & burn unit PICC line IV antibx 8 mo 10/4/10, 2/14/11 reconst surg OC 3x in 3 years very happy to be alive | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 4,912 Likes: 52 OCF Founder Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) | OCF Founder Patient Advocate (old timer, 2000 posts) Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 4,912 Likes: 52 | Wonderful that she did this so well, and that she is helping others through her event. A real hero in my book. Getting the message out there is so important. The doctor interviewed is way behind the curve information wise which anyone on this board can tell.
"He says Elizabeth's case is rare. Oral cancer normally strikes older men and smokers. " That is an idea that is at least 5 years old in thinking.
Everyone that posts here knows this just isn't the case any longer.

I saw him for over 4 years regularly, every 6 months and even 3 weeks prior to diagnosis! I forgave him and hoped he learned his lesson, I even went to see him after treatment but still didn't feel right so I left but I am still cordial with him. He and I have had "the talk" and he is human, who makes mistakes just want his eyes to be opened up. He's learning but I prefer to see someone else that is more with it!LOL I did another interview this morning, hope they mention OCF! I mention it all the time but they always edit to the way they see fit. The link should be ready for viewing later tonight. I did say in both interviews how HPV is the leading cause of OC over tobacco and alcohol but like I said, let's see what they actually post. One good thing is that through all this, the public is going to get educated one way or another!!!

My next breath starting talking about HPV and they stopped it. What can I girl do, I should have stuck with the live interview gig!LOL Here's the other tv interview link: http://www.kens5.com/news/Oral-canc...types-and-raise-awareness-119007024.html

Great job Elizabeth!!!
I hope the other walk organizers see this and contact their local media. This will bring attention to the walk and making the public aware of what oral cancer is.
