Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,844 | I had to take an opiate pain pill tonight for the first time since Dec.09. Nerve pain has been going pretty strong lately coupled with the pain from some teeth that broke last week or so ago.
Pain has been an ongoing issue for me, however after I dropped the pain meds I told myself I wouldn't touch them again. I know its stupid but I can't help but think I just failed...I hate failing .
Now the itching starts...awesome

Joined: May 2009 Posts: 1,412 | Eric, I am sorry you are in such pain. No need to be sorry about venting, we all do it adn need this outlet. Nerve pain is the worst. I think we all have it some degree. I have had abroken tooth so I could not imagine what that feels like. I knoe I have sensitive teeth and can no do cold anymore, but that pales in comparison to a broken tooth. Hope you get relief soon.

Dont worry about having to take one of those pills. Dont you EVER even begin to feel like you are a failure!!!! Hero's arent failures!!!! Hope you feel better and stop itching.

Partial Glossectemy end March - margins not clear enough.
While waiting for resection - cancer returned,2 new cancerous lumps
Re-section End May & flap from cheek attatched. Margins clear.
Mid June - 4 teeth out
Mid July -32 Rads and 3 Cisplatin
6th Sept 10 Finished Treatment!!

I am a newbie to this board and cancer, but had been diagnosed with MS since 2000 and know the extent of nerve pain. Please don't feel like a failure because of it. Not your fault.
As you and I know there is only so much our bodies can take and if an opiate helps, so be it.

You deserve to ease your pain!
As for the itching... I can relate... I took Chantix to quit smoking a few years ago... had a skin reaction and now break out in random hives anytime. Used to be head to toe, now limited to just forearms lately... but it SUCKS!
Good news is benadryl usually lets me sleep through the worst of it.
