Hi everyone! It's been awhile since I posted. At my follow-up PET scan in Dec they discovered some nodules in my lungs that they wanted to watch. My r/o said it was probably due to aspiration or some mild infection; my oncologist, who is a bit too forthright for me, said "If the nodules grow it is a metastasis." Not exactly what I wanted to hear. Well, I went back for another CT scan of my lungs last week, and things look good. It's just hard to put fears out of my head--I sometimes go to the worst scenario. I'm working on putting this disease in a drawer and shutting it!

Susan/59/nonsmoker /tonsil cancer spread to tongue,stage III diagnosed 6/10, HPV+ T3,N1 Finished 35 radiation and 7 cisplatin 9/7/10.

Susan, sorry about the nodules in your lungs. Sometimes docs really need to think before they speak! Glad to hear that the second test was ok. Its happened to me too. Ive gone thru this, I have a tiny spot on my lung which so far is unchanged for the past year. Sometimes a spot is just a spot and you just gotta put it behind you and move on. I know easier said than done! Hope you can slam that drawer shut and leave it shut!!! Best wishes, be well.

I also was diagnosed with a "spot" on my lungs. They found this in my pre-op examinations and follow it with regular chest x-rays for the last 7 years. The spot remains an unchanged spot & that was 7 years ago!

My pre-treatment scans spotted nodules in my lungs, but the ENT's nurse told me that probably half the people in the waiting room would have something like that on a scan. In our case, they watch them, but rarely are they cancer, so I'm told. And, six months later, post-treatment, mine were nothing to be concerned about.

Randy, Stage 3 tonsil SCC, node involvement, HPV-positive. 7 sessions of Taxol-Carboplatin, 35 rads finished 9/8/10. Post-TX PET and CT 12/1 showed "no metabolic evidence of residual or recurrent disease." Yay!

I had flashes in my lungs that worried the Dr that I had cancer. It was decided after another try or 2 that it was false positives from the PetScan, I did end up with Phneumonia in January but a round of Zpack ended it.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

False positives are very common. I had the lumps in my neck biopsied and were cancerous. Surgery scheduled on a Friday to take them out and have them tested. I insisted on a PET scan first. (done Thursday before) Thank God I did. Lab results showed cancer cells but they didn't know the primary. Next prcedure would have been a neck disection. PET results came in and my ENT wanted to talk. Scan showed 2 nodes (knew that from surgery) tonsil (BINGO primary no need for neck disection) and lung. ENT wanted me to see Radiation oncologist and wouldn't discuss any more with me. I told him I wasn't leaving his office without his best guess. I was told that for tonsil cancer to go to lung, this was very late stage and with chemo and radiation treatment I might have a year to 18 months.
Without treatment 6 months tops. He made an appointment the next day to see the RO but said he wanted me to go get the scan and bring it to the RO instead of having him go by the scan report.
when he saw it he looked very puzzled and asked if I had broken ribs. I told him I had a motorcycle accident a few years prior and broke 5 ribs and vertabrae. He told me I didn't have lung cancer and since the lymph nodes had been removed we just had to nuke the daylights out of my tonsil.Things looked great again (other than having cancer of course :)) I was on top of the world and ready for treatment glad to not be dying. I acually hugged and kissed the RO.

Stage 4 squamous cell tonsil cancer. Two lymph nodes involved surgically removed before source found to be tonsil. Implant radiation right on tonsil, regular mask radiation therapy for two months and a final Implant radiation. All clear confirmed by PET scans for 6 years.
