I had my 6th month check up today at my hospitals cancer clinic.
I know I have issues with either inflammation and or granulation, ulceration,Leukoplakia,??? and have had a biopsy scheduled for the 7th of March for some time now with my oral surgeon.
This is on the front between the tongue and flap.
The scare was when the (new to me doctor but said was an assistant to the H&N surgeon) looked down the back of my throat and said she could see a white patch.
She sprayed the area to numb it and 10 minutes later the H&N surgeon came to have a look with her. He prodded and poked and said it was something in the crypt on or near tonsils. Did not catch it all but think he mention debris and a little bit of something did fall out. Have since goggled and in case it happens to someone else though I would post it.
Here is just a little bit of what I think was the problem .
The tonsils are two glands found at the back of the throat. They are part of our immune system, making antibodies and white blood cells which help protect us from infection. Tonsil stones (also known as tonsilloliths) are a common condition characterised by small, hard, foul smelling, yellow stones located within the deep crypts of the tonsils. Food particles, bacteria, oral debris and white blood cells become trapped in the crypts, hardening & calcifying over time.
No one has mentioned a bad smell to me so hope I did not have that confused
Now for the biopsy in a couple of weeks..will let you know.
Gabriele

Will be thinking of you. Oh how I know that this waiting and worrying can take over your life and then once you get the "all clear" how you kick your own butt because you wasted all that time worrying! No need to repeat my mistakes!! Sometimes a lump is just a lump!

Try to put this to the back of your mind - you have done all you can. In the meantime, try to do something special for yourself each day. Do NOT let cancer steal these days...

Hugs

Donna

Thank you all for your concern. The scare was resolved in 30 minutes once the white spot (debris) at the back of my throat\tonsil was removed.
The biopsy on the 7th March is just a part of the keeping an eye on the leukoplakia\inflammation (front of tongue\flap) that I have had since the original operation. I have had a few surgeries to nibble away at it with not much success so as I am in no pain opted for the biopsy just to put my mind at rest.
I had a biopsy in 2009 and am expecting much the same result i.e no cancer but probably a few nasties like these pasted from last report The adjacent epithelium is hyperplastic, shows prominent parakeratosis with bacterial colonies and abundant candida albicans organisms being noted in the superficial epithelial layers. There is no evidence of residual tumour.- DIAGNOSIS TONGUE : NON-SPECIFIC CHRONIC ULCER.CANDIDIASIS.
Sounds awful doesnt it but the comment from the specialist is mostly - not much to worry about!
The only thing I had forgotten about was booking a yearly luncheon for myself and 3 of my female colleagues for the following day. It coincides with International Womens Day and at the time marked no special dietary requirements.
As I will no doubt have a few stitches I have changed it today. eek
Love to all
Gabriele
