I watched and learned so much from him..We were like Peas and Carrots..Jan 2007 that ugly word came back into our life,he turned 68yrs 9-11-07 and went home 11-11-07..and thats all i will say about that.. I had to seek help after because i could not del with him gone! Just when i think i have my life in order-Bam! 12-16-2010 my stepdad had to have his voicebox removed and his whole tounge.. History Leukoplakia bx 8/2006 SCC floor mouth T3N0M0- Verrucous Carcinoma. 14 hour 0p SCC-Right ND/excision/marginal mandibulectomy 9/2006, 4 teeth removed, flap from wrist, trach-ng 6 days- no chemo/rad. 6 ops and debulking (flap/tongue join) + bx's 2006-2012. bx Jan 2012 Hyperkeratosis-Epithelial Dysplasia 24cm GIST tumour removed 8/2013. Indefinite Oral Chemo.
1/31/16 passed away peacefully surrounded by family

There is alot of important info on both the forum and also on the main pages. Gabe is correct that there is alot of support here under the caregiver tab. Your mother can also seek out her own therapist. Another idea is to check with the place your stepfather is being treated. Some large facilities have great programs to help cancer patients and their caregivers.
