I have been to the form a few times.

So i recently started having trismus after my exercise routines. I never had this befre and I am a 5 yr survivor. I have been doing some reseach on line.

I did not know that low calcium levels can contribute to lock jaw. I read about it here.

https://sites.google.com/site/trismusjaw/home/cause

do you think i should give the tums a try?

Like many web sites that push a product but also give good advice that will really fix the problem (cf diet product sites that in small print or instruction state you need to exercise 30 minutes a day in addition to taking their product), the web site you linked to does spell out what you really need to be doing
3. Stretch the muscle. Slowly open and close your jaw continuously
The website author's "trismus" resolves itself on its own by his own admission the next day, but since he claims that Tums(step #2 right before stretching) will resolve Trismus
in less than an hour!!!! (emphasis in the original)
, what have you got to lose.
Take one, wait an hour and post back here.

My diet is high in calcium and it has NOT changed anything at all with my trismus. Mine was caused by radiation damage to the joints in my jaw and scar tissue. It doesnt suddenly come and go, I always have trismus. This is something I cannot change and I am ok with it. Ive learned to adapt to my situation., things could be so much worse.

Please remember if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. TUMS????? LOL!!!!!!

sorry to hear about your post radiation sclerosis.

After doing some more reading on the internet, it looks like trismus can be multifactorial. In my case the radiation alone was not enough to give me trismus, but that coupled with low calcium tipped my bucket over.

So I am going to try to cchange the factors I can, like the calcium.

I am going to try this on my next work out, and I will let you guys know how it goes.

Ive been to a physical therapist for trismus. The therabite device along with stretching exercises and warm compresses will help trismus. It takes alot of hard work to make progress. I am not a doctor nor medical professional. As a patient and a well informed OCF member, I unfortunately know about trismus first hand. There isnt an easy way to fix it.

When looking up info on the internet, take what you find with a grain of salt. This is why OCF is monitored. This prevents the members from passing around false cures. I agree with Charm, give it a try and please come back and tell us how you made out.

Trismus that is radiation caused has to do with scar tissue forming in the fibers of the muscle as a result of the radiation damage.

What this article is talking about is transient trismus, which is not the same thing. If Tums worked for a head and neck cancer patient (calcium supplementation) along with warmth applied to the area, it would not be one of the worst permanent quality of life issues that H&N cancer patients deal with.

As with other sites that are covered with ads for things somewhat related to the topic, most of them just ways to separate you from your money, I wouldn't trust any site that is coved with paid ads. As OCF is a mamber of HON Code- Health ON the NET - (see the badge on the bottom of our OCF home page and you can click it to show that we are current), we do not allow advertising on our site, for very good reasons. Go to a web page covered with ads for bogus nonsense and you are getting is some bare bones information (of questionable value most of the time regardless of subject) designed as a vehichle to mount ads on, not to provide you with the most scientifically and clinically proven information you can get.
