Leslie: Thanks for posting this link. Many of us are still numb from the news of Petey's passing. He was truly one of a kind and I, for one, will never forget him and his many words of wisdom and experience that has helped untold OC victims.

Friends,
Being one of the lucky ones who is doing well after 5 years, I don't visit the forum nearly as often as I used to. I checked by today and am very sad to see that the irrepressible PeteyB is no longer with us. He was always concerned for others and very upbeat. Pete apparently handled everything well, including the journey to the end.
We can all learn from him.

I am also a little amazed that over 4000 people have joined this forum since I did so in the summer of 2002. That is a tribute to all of Brian's hard work in drawing attention to oral cancer and to this site, but, at the same time, a sad commentary on the continuing spread of this terrible disease.

Take care all,
Danny G.

Thanks again, Leslie for always being on top of the news.

Even after his death, Petey's words and his message are still getting out there.

What a guy!!

I might add to this about the article... this wasn't going to happen at all. They were going to write a couple line obituary and be done with Petey. You'd think that the writer that worked with Petey on the beginging of his story (that he had to chase her for, and create interest in her for, in the first place) would want to write something powerful to end the story. Something that would speak to the issues, something that would show the impact that he had. Something that would talk about how he fought for others that will get this disease. But no. OCF's PR advisory Kari Kramer had to call the writer in FL and convince her to do even this little piece. In the writer's mind Petey was already yesterday's news. We couldn't even interest her in doing a piece that talked about how the poor guy ended up dying for a disease, -that had anyone in Florida pulled their heads out of the rear ends earlier in the process - he might have survived. It all just sucks. Sad does not even describe how I feel about it all. I hope this writer stays at her podunk newspaper and never gets a break into a real news market. She wouldn't recognize an important story if it bit her on the ass. I guess how tired I am of some of this is showing through....

What a sad state of affairs that it had to take prodding from the OCF, via Keri, to get something into the paper. I guess Petey's death wasn't going to help them sell papers.

Once again, we can assume that the almighty buck is always the bottom line.

It sure does suck.

Funny how death can be like that.
When Robin died The General Dental council asked me if i still wanted to pursue our complaint against his Dentist. Why wouldnt I? As if his death just closed the door and it could all be forgotten about.

They just dont get it do they.It was always going to be too late to help Robin and its nothing to do with money (we are not suing)

ITS TO TRY AND SAVE THE NEXT PERSON WHO SITS IN HIS CHAIR.Its about education, awareness, giving people a fighting chance, and the press of all people should have taken the opportunity to illustrate the point by using Peteys death to underline the importance of all the things he said.

God help us they can be so useful at times and sometimes they are just scum buckets.

I'm going to miss you, Petey. You and I talked about riding bikes in Las Vegas when we both beat this cancer. My condolences go out to Petey's family...he is a great person.
