Hello Everyone. I am a caregiver for a relative that has developed oral mucositis as a result of chemotherapy. It was recommended to us that we try a new prescription strength rinse called MuGard to help combat these issues. Has anyone used or heard any official testimonials from people about this? Thanks for your help & support.

We haven't had any posters in the last year post that they have used it. It has been out about that long. So this either means that the treatment facilities have not bought into using the product because of lack of significant benefit, or that the company hasn't really done a good job of promoting it to them. If you end using the product we would all be interested in how it works out as mucocits is a significant issue for most H&N cancer patients.

Update: Our doctor has inquired about samples of MuGard and hopefully, we will be using it by the end of the week.

I really hope that it works as good as "they" say it does. Everyday is a struggle just to get him to eat because of the pain, really hoping for some relief.

SJ/Brian- I did hear about the MuGard rinse when I was doing research for my Grandmother. She also has problems eating as well and the rinses she has tried in the past are a pain. The MuGard seemed easy because it didn't need any mixing. If you guys find out any more info on its availability please let me know. I will keep you posted as well if I hear more about it. SJ-Where in Nj?

Hi,
my boyfriend was given Mugard as a mouthwash to take 4 times a day from the beginning of his radio, unfortunately it is sweet flavoured so makes him feel sick but it does seem to sooth his mouth/throat. It is automatically given to all head/nead radiotherapy patients here and is very highly recommended.

cg to boyfiend stage 3 tongue, removal and flap surgery june 2010. 12 teeth removed, 6 weeks radio and chemo started 23rd Aug 10.
