Hello everyone,
I posted a few weeks back about my moms recent diagnosis.

Finally we are getting in tomorrow for her ct scan and seeing her surgeon directly after to find out the extent of the damage.

Hopefully when we leave his office tomorrow we will know how advanced her cancer is and how radical her surgery is expected to be.

Wish us luck

Jackie

Good luck to you and your mom Jackie. I pray that the good Lord will be with the both of you and give you a peace that is unimaginable.

Billy and Amy,
Thanks for the kind wishes.

The kids are doing okay...they don't really get it yet. I've been quite honest with my 10 yr old about grandma's illness and of course the two year old is okay as long as grandma is around to do his bidding. She spoils them both rotten and it will be possibly a good thing for them to have to learn to give back more to grandma for a change.

Hi everyone,
The news was relatively good today. The CT scan showed a 5 cm tumor at the very back of her gum. He said he would be able to remove it and a small portion of her jawbone without affecting the use of her jaw.

It hasn't spread to her lungs or ear canal but is showing in a few nodes. He will also remove some nodes. She will have a tracheotomy (sp?) and a peg tube inserted during the surgery and should only be in the hospital two or three days.

I noticed that her reaction to what the doctor said was a little strange and I will post about it sometime soon. I have a few questions for the people who have been diagnosed about the feelings involved.

Thanks for listening

Jackie

Jackie: Keep us posted on your mother's surgery and progress! I'm thankful that her jaw will not be affected by the surgery, and hope that she will do as well as Buzz has since his jaw surgery. Buzz had a trach, but talked 'around' it, anyway, so they finally took it out after a few days!
When is she scheduled for surgery? We will certainly include her in our prayers...
