Hello everyone, Velox here..

Was wondering if anyone had any experience with a partial glossectomy.. I was diagnosed with SCC a couple weeks ago(t1N0m0) and had a partial glossectomy last week on my right side of my tongue..
It was only a day surgery and it looks like they took out about 20-25%..
Was wondering when it will fully heal. If it turns white is that normal(I heard this was a scab).

Seeing my ENT tomorrow for a follow up.. Had a CT scan the day before surgery so hoping that I am in the clear on the nodes.

First of all.......Welcome to OCF!

I had a partial glossectomy w/suprahyoid neck dissection Aug 10 2009. Mine healed pretty fast and I was eating scrambled eggs in Sept. I had an irritated patch that wasn't healing and in Oct. he lasered the area and about two weeks after that everything was good. I think I remember it turning white (gosh, I never thought I would forget anything related to my surgery!) and then it eventually turned pink.

Good luck with your follow up!

Thx for the info..

Mine is turning pink now too..

Lucky it has been caught early.. CT scan came back clean..

Waiting for pathology on the piece of tongue they took out on monday.

It was a piece on the side.. was wondering when the numbness and the taste on that surgery side will come back if at all. The doc let it heal by secondary intentions. so it was a bit painful but he didn't have to sticth or tether so thats probably a better thing longer term..

Thanx for the feedback

Since he removed my submandibular gland too, I had stitches and it looks a little anchored in there.

The side of my tongue still feels like "thin cardboard", but it doesn't hurt or bother me in any way. Honestly, I haven't even paid attention about taste being different on that side. I can taste food when I eat, so I'm just grateful for that.

Yea for clear scans!! Good luck with your follow up.

On another note, when we moved to Sitka we went through BC going to Prince Rupert to catch the ferry. We ended up going to Skagway due to a mudslide that closed the road to Prince Rupert. We went through Banff National Park and it was absolutely stunning! Beautiful area of the country!

Glad to hear you caught it early. That is one of the most important things dealing with this stuff. Yes, mine turned white and the white eventually fell off and turned pink. It took about a month for my completely heal from having partial glossectomies. I still can not eat on that side of my mouth.
