However I have some too: resist the urge to watch the (maybe here are more than one, dunno) radical neck dissection procedure posted on YouTube. Damn my curiosity I failed to do this the week before mine and it gave me some sleepless moments to say the least!
Surgeons who do this procedure are great. You'll do fine. D2

My Surgery is this Wenesday at 7:00am and I also watched it several times. I think I am just one of those strange people who want to know exactly what is going to happen. While it did not bother me in the least, my wife couldnt even begin to watch it. Maybe I am just a little twisted....

Hopefully, you will be able to say the same thing.
Good luck.

My DAD , who is 68 years old has been diagnosed with Oral Cancer and primary area is the tongue. and its now in T1, N1, M1 stage. After 2 weeks of testing they found out that one of the lymph nodes was affected. The doctors didn't do a PET scan and decided on a surgery for him. Today he had a 4 hour surgery , which removed 15% of tongue and also a fully modified neck dissection on the right side and removed all the nodes. They said after the Histopathology report , they will decide on the further course such as Radiation /Chemo. Is this the regular course of action? . I want to travel to be there with him during the radiation phase. I want to know how many days after surgery usually the radiation recommended.

You can start your own thread for advice, but since you didn't... It does sound like a 'typical' course of action, yes. I did have a PET scan that showed one very involved lymph node so I also had a neck dissection. There are those that are moving away from this surgery, but I'm happy I got those lymph nodes out as quickly as possible.
As far as the timing for the rest of the treatment, radiation and chemotherapy, I was told 4 to 6 weeks of healing from surgery before radiation and mine started 6 weeks later, mostly due to an overbooked radiation machine.
