after 3 weeks in the hospital I have made back to my apartment. The flip set in really good. Just had a few set backs, it took about 2 weeks before the wounds in mouth to start to heal. Then one day it turned pink and started to heal. The Dr. said it would take around 1 to 2 month for the wound to heal. slowness of the healing is due to the radiation treatment 3 years ago. I still have good days and bad days. Today I feel supper tired and all I want to do is sleep.

Right now I have a feeding tube in and cannot wait until I can eat again. But have to wait for the trach area to heal up. They say it should be closed up in about 1 to 2 weeks. Things are healing, just really slow.

Round 1 5/2007 - 35 Rad treatments and 6 chemo of cisplatin
TPN feeding for 5 months during treatment and after.
Tumor was on the right side of the tongue.

Round 2. Tumor on the lower back right jaw area. Surgery on 3/12/2010 to remove the tumor, rebuild the jaw and some work on the back tongue.

Im so glad you are home recovering. Thanks for posting your status. I sent an email to your parents but didnt get a response. Sounds to me like you are very fortunate in recovering so quickly. Im sure to you it doesnt seem like you are healing quickly, but from someone who has been there....you are doing excellent!!!!

Rest up and make sure you get the formula feeding in a routine. Do you have a pump for it? Its very important to get the right amount of formula daily or you will feel lousy and healing will go slowly. Just ask if you have any questions about the feeding tube stuff. Ive had one for over 2 years.

Congrats on a successful surgery. Hope you feel better soon smile

So happy to hear from you and hear that you are recovering well, albeit slowly. Sounds like things went very well. Dont expect too much of yourself - you have been through a huge surgery and hospitalization. Look forward to hearing more on how you are doing - if you have questions about recovery - be sure to ask - someone on here will have been thru it!

Great to hear that your surgery is over and done with. There is no place like home!!

It seems like nearly everyone who has had to have surgery that involves their jaw bone has had to endure some sort of damned setback.

Glad it is behind you now and you are able to get onto the healing.

thank you everyone

It is good be be home and still doing good. I know it will take time to heal. I just wish the doctors would not say oh you will be healed up in 4 to 6 weeks. Now they are saying 2 to 3 months. Now I just take each day as it comes. My goal is to get the feeding out in a month.
