Today was my 41 year old husband's 6 month PET scan. He finished treatment for Stage 3 SCC no primary on 3/15/06.

So far he has been great. His last scan was 11/06 and was fine. He saw his ENT on 5/25/07 and all was great.

In the last 6 weeks, his voice has gotten hoarser than normal. I thought I knew everything about this disease, but in the last 2 days I found this could be a symptom. His PET was scheduled anyway but I feel I should have sent him back to the ENT sooner as maybe something would have been found since 5/25.

We should have the results tomorrow from the PET. First time around, he had no hoarseness whatsoever, and this time around no lumps in neck.

If he didn't have the hoarseness I wouldn't be freaking out as much---he has been doing lots of talking at his job, though.

Just going through all possible scenarios, and needed to vent.

Thanks.

This is such a good place to come and vent:) I'm one year out of treatment and my voice gets hoarse. The doc said could be from the treatment, loss of saliva, and also I still have thick mucous at times. What I'm trying to say, is try to keep calm and don't think the worst. I know, it's easy for me to say, but so hard to do. Hoping all is clear with his scans, let us know what's going on. Take care. Linda

My voice get hoarse often too and I never had rad or chemo. I even see my Ent some days when I am hoarse and he seems to show no concern. I understand your fears though . Take a deep breathe and one day at a time , cus the Drs are gonna wanna see that PET scan anyhow !

Hello - did you get the PET results? I finished treatment in May of last year. Everything has been clear for me until now, my PET from last week seems to indicate metastasis to a jugular lymph node. I meet with the doc Monday to find out what next.
Waiting waiting waiting....difficult thing.

Age 41 - Stage 2 SCC tongue Dx 2/06. Cisplatin x3, IMRT x35. Mets to neck node discovered 7/07. RND 40 nodes removed, margins not clear. Cisplatin, Taxotere, 5-FU Fall 07, then IMXT/Erbitux for 7 wks. Inoperable mets to both lungs and pleura Dx Oct'08. 4 cycles Carboplatin, Erbitux, 5-FU so far.

Steve, sorry to hear that--please let me know what the doc says Monday.

Mike's scan was clear, but I got him to the ENT because I was paranoid it was something small on his larynx that PET didn't pick up, as he is still
very hoarse.

So he went to ENT today and low and behold they found a polyp on his vocal cord, which they will take out and biopsy.

The doc said he does not think it's cancer, yet it's so small the PET would not have picked it up if it was.

Now we are waiting for the surgery to be scheduled.

I want you to know Steve, that a PET last year on Mike picked up a false positive met to his bone.
