Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 5 | What happens next? My husband, Rob is a 9 year survivor of several episodes of tongue cancer which were surgically removed with no other treatment. He has had 1/3 of his tongue removed. He is a 15 month survivor of stage 4 neck cancer after having a radical neck dissection and intensive radiation/chemotherapy tx. On tues. his dentist found 4 new spots in his mouth. 2 on the inside of his cheek(same side as previous cancer) 1 under his tongue and 1 spot on the other side of his tongue. It is his opinion as well as my husband's that they are all cancerous. We see the surgeon who has been following my husband since the neck surgery on monday. We have previously been told he could not receive radiation again. So, what are the options? Surgery to remove and then wait? Anyone have any advice

Others here have had radiation more than once. I think it's a factor of location. Sorry to hear you fight continues.

I would seek out the nearest Comprehensive Cancer Care Center closest to you, I'm sure Davidcpa or the other smart people will post a link for you shortly (I always forget...chemo brain).
Get the absolute best possible medical advice available to you. I'm sorry you and your husband have to face this again.

If you aren't already I would get to a CCC because all the big ones are all in communication with one another on what the best treatments are for different cases... if you are in Illinois Universitt of Chicago is supposed to be really good. Wishing your husband a full recovery from this cancer.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

I was diagnosed Dec. 09 with a tumor which is 1 cm to the right of the larynx with activity in the lymph node.January was a blur of tests, peg tube insertion, hearing test, teeth out, moulds for trays and the 1st clinic visit for the mould for the mask and ct scan. since then ... nothing... have a letter which states that the 2nd clinic visit will be 4 weeks from 26thJan 2010. am very anxious as it is only at the 2nd visit that i will be give a date for radiation therapy, plus 1 low dose of Cispatin per week to begin. i will have 7 weeks of treatment. You haven't mentioned if you ahve stopped smoking and I hope you have.

Retired Dentist, 59 years old at diagnosis. SCC of the left lateral border of the tongue (Stage I). Partial glossectomy and 30 nodes removed, 4/6/05. Nodes all clear. No chemo no radiation 18 year survivor.
