Yesterday, when I was in physical therapy, I saw a brochure for Stand-Up MRI. There are 3 locations in the Philadelphia suburbs--Bala Cynwyd, Malvern, and Trevose. This subject came up when one of the OCF posters had a tough time with the traditional (lying down) MRI because of mucous collecting in his throat. The website is www.UniversityStandUpMRI.com

It is made by Fonar Corporation (www.Fonar.com). I called this morning to see if I could get a list of locations across the US but because this is Saturday, they only accept messages. I'll try again Monday am.

If you want to call yourself the number is 1-888-633-6374.

I heard similar radio commercials here in the DC area in passing and will have to jot down the info next time. They said you could have the MRI sitting down or standing up and stressed they would take any doctor's prescription for a regular MRI.
Oh well, we will see how I do with my regular tube lay down MRI this Monday (if I don't get snowed out like the last two appointments as they are predicting more snow)
good thing we did not waste any time trying to patent this wink

LOL Charm,. This is good news for a lot of us to be able to stand or sit. I bet there are quite a few now in different areas.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.
--- Passed away 5/14/14, will be greatly missed by everyone here

The Fonar website has a phone number on the home page for patients to call -- I expect that it helps locate the closest MRI facility with this equipment.

Charm -- I hear those ads too, all the time. It's Washington Open MRI.

April 2006: Husband dx by dentist with leukoplakia on tongue. Oral surgeon's biopsy 4/28/06: Moderate dysplasia; pathology report warned of possible "skip effect." ENT's excisional biopsy (got it all) 5/31/06: SCC in situ/small bit superficially invasive. Early detection saves lives.

Wow, that is impressive!! It's not hard to see why the US are leading the way and respected with their Cancer centres, equipment and medical advancement.
