Joined: Dec 2009 Posts: 108 | Carol had her teeth removed Wednesday. Some immediate relieve of intense mouth and ear pain. The tongue tumor was rubbing against her teeth causing the extreme pain. She's been able to sleep about 4 hours now instead of 2 albeit still restless sleep. They scripted Percocet 10/375 that needs to be crushed and mixed with water. Stronger than Lortab.
Thursday am she had a rough time getting out of bed. She felt like she had been hit by a train, every muscle in her body from the neck to the soles of her feet were aching. She shuffled and slightly bent forward at the waist to walk. Carol didn't want to call the Dr, figuring it would work itself out. At 2 am Friday I rubbed and massaged her with Mineral Ice. The Mineral Ice had aided her in the past whenever she had sore muscles. Not this time. She got cold so I turned on the heat and put another blanket on her. It took over an hour for her to get warm. She's the type person that doesn't get cold even when the weather is cold. I vow here and now never, ever again use Mineral Ice on her! The Dr was called and he said it could be from the local anesthesia (SP?). This a.m. she's not as sore. Could it be they gave her too much or brought her out of it too soon? Next week I'll find out what local they gave her, Dr wouldn't say over the phone.
Anyone have problems after having their teeth removed or any side effects from the local anesthesia?

As a side note, suture removal is scheduled 2/3/10.

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 5,260 | Yes Linda I had many including losingthe memory of the previous year of my life and parts of the next year, I remember nothing at all. I had to have all of my teeth removed for rads, chemo and radiation seed implants,. Was given up tpo die and was readied to be sent to an extnded care facility bu woke just in time from the induced coma I was put in. My memory of the following year is almost as bad. I still suffer much pain and will never have teeth again , but I am a survivor and will make it.
Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

It seems to me from what you are saying that Carol had general anesthesia and not local anesthesia. I'm sure that she was not just "numbed" and that she was put to sleep.
Local anesthesia would not cause any of the problems that she was having.
Just trying to clarify things and I hope she is back to normal by now.

Sorry I'm late getting back again. Too busy trying to get my season of skiing in before it gets warm here. After this storm hits us tomorrow and Sat., I think I'll be skiing in the streets.

Joined: Dec 2009 Posts: 108 | Carol went in Wednesday for suture removal. They didn't remove sutures as she's not able to open her mouth wide enough for them to remove the sutures from the back. They told her the sutures would dissolve. She had a piece of tooth they had missed (??!!), the Dr. had pulled it causing pain. Carol told me she almost hit him! I told her she should have, he would have believed her when she told him she was in pain! And maybe he would be more careful with other patients!  Carol grew up with 5 older brothers...she can pack a wallop! We're off to meet Carol's MO this morning. First visit with him since Carol's diagnosis 1/5. Linda

Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,219 | Sometimes a piece of tooth or even a piece of bone will work it's way out days, weeks or months after an extraction. This isn't unusual. But removing it without local anesthesia is rediculous.

The snow is approaching, the skis are waxed (you wouldn't know about this) and we'll see what it's like tomorrow.
Retirement is all about skiing in January and February. This is going to be a big one.

Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 104 | Jerry, enjoy the skiing and I am glad you are keeping that load of snow south of the great lakes. I don't ski so snow is just something pretty to look at and then get out and shovel the stuff.
