Joined: Dec 2009 Posts: 4 | I feel your fear my friend. You are way to young to have to deal with something this heavy. I just went in for a routine cleaning and was sent to an oral surg. My spot is on the tongue. I see him tomorrow. I figure it's better to know then to guess. Some cats said it turned out to be minor and they're all good. Others, not so lucky. Here's hoping luck and good karma are on your side. ps love montana best skiing ever.

I did lose half of my face, yet unlike you I wasn't an idiot and didn't use tobacco products of any kind...ever.
It is all in my signature line. 3 rounds chemo in conjunction with 35 radiation treatments. A major surgery that involved removing the right side of my jaw and replacing it with my fibula while using tissue from the fibula area to reline the interior of my mouth. A complication of the surgery was the total paralysis of the right side of my face, severly disfiguring me.
This disease is not a joke, if you have it and it's bad, you'll be lucky if you only lose half your face and still be breathing. It's time to stop being an idiot, quit chewing and go get a biopsy.
You can remove your foot from your mouth now and use it to walk your happy ass to a medical professional to get yourself checked out.

Regardless of what this doctor tells you I would keep pressing this issue until I knew for sure what I was dealing with.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Retired Dentist, 59 years old at diagnosis. SCC of the left lateral border of the tongue (Stage I). Partial glossectomy and 30 nodes removed, 4/6/05. Nodes all clear. No chemo no radiation 18 year survivor.
