Hi, It's been 10 months since treatments. The ENT told me Thur. that there was no sign of any kind of tumor, mass. no signs of cancer. I go back to the cancer center on Wen. had mri on brain, head and neck last week. I have a very dry mouth where I can't talk without water, and have trouble drinking with dry mouth, It rans back out, till it gets wet. Can't eat dry foods, they stick to mouth. Some taste has come back, but not the same taste as I remenber. Sometimes I can eat spicey foods, but never know when all of sudden, my mouth can start burning whem I eat it. I'm still at 105 not gaining. I feel good most of the time. My hair started falling out a month ago, getting pretty thin, I can live without hair....I'm alive

cancer surgery on July 7th. 2008, I'm now a survivor. cancer free for now. 39 radiation, and 8 chemo treatments.

Ruby,, try to rub a moisturizer on your lips inside and out. This helps me and I still use the Aquaphor . It nakes a difference and especially on the inside.

Ruby,

You are doing OK on the recovery front which can take every bit of 2 years from the end of Tx so just be patient. I didn't see a significant positive change in my saliva and taste until 15 months post Tx.

Re the dry mouth have you tried a mist bottle to just help keep the mouth moist when you need it? I carried one in my pocket filled w/ water and misted when I could or didn't want to carry that damn water bottle with me. Hopefully this will resolve itself in a few months.

Biotene also has a spray to help keep the mouth moist, I carry a small spray bottle of it and it's helped me out. Keep your chin up, I love your attitude!

Like Eric, I found the Biotene spray to be helpful, but rather pricey for the amount that I used. A poster on OCF shared a more economical way: buy one of those empty mini-spray bottles (Rite-aid had them 3 for a dollar) and fill it up with biotene mouthwash. the effect was pretty much the same for me and since I use the Biotene mouthwash anyway, no real additional expense.
