My left lymph nodes were totally fried from the first radiation. The CT scans showed them as "scarred". After the cancer came back in my tongue, they did a neck dissection but no cancer in the lymph nodes, just "necrotic" tissue (medical for dead and rotting) Just be sure to ask your ENT about it and what it could mean. good luck

Hi. I think it's probably way to soon for any type of scan to be "clear". From what I understand, the radiation causes a lot of damage. My husband just had one done this past Friday and he is 4 months out of treatment. My husband had Cisplatin and his white blood count and blood pressure are still a little low. I know dehydration can cause your blood pressure to be low so try to push fluids. My husband also had a sore on his tongue that took over 2 months out of treatment to clear up. When was your last treatment?

I am 3 months out of treatment (28 rads then Brachytherapy). I had a CT Scan last week and they reported a stable node on my lung, however that node was not seen on the prior scan. I'm not losing any sleep over that. I was never plagued with mouth sores but yesterday and today, the roof of my mouth is sore. I see my ENT tomorrow so I guess I'll see then if it is anything to worry about. Taking one day at a time. Hope John is on a pathway to feeling better and healing. BTW, a friend of mine, same treatment, had problems with sores and continues to have them 1 year post treatment but, as you know, we are all different in our symptoms and after affects.

My husband just completed his radiation and cisplatin. He had 2 swollen lymph nodes at the start of treatment. At the end of treatment his chemo doc felt what he thought was scar tissue on a node - a cat scan confirmed this...what a relief! He is now on another round of cisplatin. He has had some fluctuations in his blood pressure but this normalized following a 3 week break from treatment. The most disturbing side effect now is the phlegm build-up.

Base of tongue spread to 2 lymph nodes.stg?? Dx 5/5/09 peg
Tx started with 35 rad, 7 weeks cisplatin, 2 weeks 5-fu.
completed second course of tx with reduced dose of cisplatin &
5-fu. All clear
Post radiation swallowing difficulties 12 years later
