Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Joined: May 2007 Posts: 622 | 3 months sounds a bit long to me. From the time of my initial diagnosis to actual start of treatments was 6 weeks, and they said that was a long time

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 5,260 | I never heard of one. My insurance didn't pay for Ohio State LOL But I am , They paid the other 3 hospitals no problem. and no delays. I think the time between diagnosis and 1st Surgery at OSU CCC was maybe 3 weeks and that after the other 3 Hospitals
Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Had to have certain things done first such as seeing a dentist, PetScann, etc. It may have been 3-4 weeks before I got started. However, my doctors took care of all the insurance filings.

Sandy 56, BOT SCC Biopsy 1/21/09 Stage 3, T3NXM0.
Finished 3 cycle induction chemotherapy 4/7/09. (Chisplatin, 5-fu and Texotere). Re-staged 4/20/09,(very successful.) Will start Carboplatin/radiation 2 Gy/5 days/7 weeks (Tomotherapy) starting May 4th. Finished 6/22/09.

Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,844 | Unfortunately during this time of duress you have to deal with the red tape of the insurance companies. I totally agree with David though(very common) that you have to be the squeaky wheel and push the issue. This is your life, your health and if you have nobody else to be your advocate then it comes down to you.
