My first PT session was two months and four days after surgery -- My PT had to bone up on Lymphedema Massage techniques to be sure she was remembering it all correctly (She was!). It's primarily in use after mastectomies.

BTW, loosening the scars (mine are really bad because of the prior radiation) is called 'mobilizing'.
