I guess there may be a difference in places that only operate as cancer centers, MD Anderson, MSKCC...to have an ER, which makes sense. Although, I went to several multi-centers that had oncology, otolaryngology floors, I only had to go a local hospital ER, right after chemo, and was put in isolation in the regular ER. There is one NYC hospital, NY Eye and Ear Infirmary that has a 24 hr ER for optical emergencies. I can relate to the "befuddled look" when I woke up blinded in one one eye. Went to a local ER, again, several hours later was told by the doctor that there was nothing they could do since no Opthomologist was available at that time, but at least I had one eye left! I didn't find it funny.
Just rambling on....
