Mine was done under general, wheeled into op room like any other real surgery with anesthesiologist and full crew. They go in and do "examine" but also do surgery and get samples which are sent off to biopsy. I do not think they wait to do any further surgery during this procedure. So in that sense it is diagnostic and an "exam".
You will be fine and do need someone to drive you home as you will be in recovery for a bit and feeling off a bit.
