Ok. A lump is only a lump until someone tells you otherwise.

5 years out from my hemi glossectomy, almost to the day. I felt some lumps along my right jaw / chin. (The hemi glossectomy was associated with my second cancer diagnosis in 2014.) Then the pain hit. I followed up with my ENT and after he probed a "curious looking" mass under the right side of my tongue which immediately started to bleed. To summarize a long story - CT Scans / MRI have shown the mass is located under the right side of my tongue and has grown to encapsulate the right side of my chin and right jawbone. So, I'm back for the third time...…..

Some additional information - I had been having issues over the last two years with uncontrolled bleed from my throat / mouth. Two of those issues resulted in hospital admissions, but no defined source was determined. (several ct scans / implantation of stents and coils) The consensus was "pseudo aneurisms" due to radiation treatments and brachytherapy from 1997 and radiation treatments from 2014. The most recent issue with the bleeding was from May 2019. (The new tumor did not show on the May 2019 CT Scan.)

Has anyone else had experience with bleeding from a non-determined source?

I'll have to update my signature.

I am so very sorry to read about your recurrence!!! The timing makes it even worse, so soon after hitting the coveted 5 year mark. The entire situation stinks! Im sure its not easy to mentally handle the unexpected newest diagnosis.

Best wishes with everything you are going thru!!!!

, hello BJM,

I see you've endured radiation treatments Twice.

I just had my 6 th tumor, at 1 year post VMAT ( A type of IMRT)-- We are considering it a New Primary, and I had surgery April, which revealed it was Yet Another invasive SCC with deep Positive margins, thus I had even more extensive surgery May 14.
And I've a new diagnosis -- Field Cancerization.

Anyway, I volunteered for more Rads, to clean up the area because the front margin was 1 Millimeter. Too close !!

I have lots in common with your profile, but not the bleeding part. But yep, it could be from tissue & vascular damage, from radiation.

So, what are your options now?

Hang in.....

Crystal
