Just had my first infusion of Carboplatin yesterday and so far no noticeable effects except for a "funny" feeling on the scars of my neck and wrist from the surgery. Nothing was mentioned in the literature about this - anybody else who had Carboplatin have any ideas? Also how long before side effects kick in generally, I only have two more to go and so far this feels a lot better than the Erbitux which started chewing up my skin immediately,

Charm:
I do Carboplatin weekly with my radiation. I've not noticed any side effects with it, however, I'm probably not the best person to respond as I did very well with chemo in general.

No noticeable side effects is just the answer I wanted to hear Sandy. Maybe platinum will agree with me better than engineered mouse genes wink

Charm I hope that you continue to have no noticeable side effects and great success with the carboplatin. Hopefully it will make you feel better to know that my doctor said that the people that had the more sever side effects from the Erbitux also had the greatest success with the treatment. You are in my prayers.

Charm,
I had carboplatin as well (see my signature for the dosage). Compared to cisplatin it was a non event. Specifically no nausea!! Of course it was getting fairly miserable by week 6 (eating/drinking) but most of that was due to the radiation and not enough nutrition (despite a PEG).
.... BTW I also had no luck with Erbitux...

My husband started with Erbitux because of poor kidney performance but he fell into the 8% of people who develop mouth and lip sores. It was so bad he looked like he lost a boxing match, including the red eyes. He was switched to Carboplatin and so far (1 treatment) has had no side effects. Meanwhile his face is healing from the Erbitux. He is receiving daily IVs to help his kidneys flush out the platinum.
