So I've been pretty scared the past few days. I basically have myself convinced that I have a cancerous spot on my tongue and have been in tears about it.

I have a spot on my tongue that is about the size of a pencil eraser. It is almost the same color as my tongue, but a little pinker. It is slightly raised but still appears to have the normal texture of my tongue. It is located on the top surface, towards the front and to the left a little. I have had this spot for well over two years. The dentist looked at it a year and a half ago and said she didn't know what it was but she wasn't concerned. She did that light screening for oral cancer which came back negative. When I saw her 2 months ago it wasn't even mentioned. I recently had a friend who has me completely freaked out about it being cancer and the research I have done online seems to point towards the light screening being pretty inaccurate.

I am going to see my primary about it, but in the meantime it seems to be all I can think about. Does this spot seem to fit with oral cancer? I know it is a little silly to ask in a msg board, but I am trying to calm myself down.

ONLY ONE WAY TO FIND OUT IF IT'S CANCER and that is a biopsy.

BTW is your friend a ENT or a Oral Cancer specialist? If not then don't listen to him or anyone else. Now calm WAY down and go see an ENT and get another opinion.

Hi sweetie. Yes make an appointment and get a referral to ENT or oral surgeon who can take a biopsy if it doesn't go away within 2 weeks. Most likely its nothing but its much better to be safe and find out for sure.

We are here for you! Kate

Get the ENT as soon as you can. It seems you will need nerve pills if you wait much longer.

I agree with the "relax" hints. If this has been the same for two years I think you can ease up a bit. Please do see your doctor but don't worry.

read each post above carefully, now read them again and notice a trend...see an ENT and don't listen to people who know really next to nothing about cancer. See the ENT (ear, nose and throat specialist) but really if it's been on there a while and hasn't caused you any issues or gotten bigger then really what's the issue?
